Brewers-Rockies Preview

Milwaukee (28-40) at Colorado (36-32), 3:10 p.m. EDT

Returning to Coors Field may be exactly what Colorado's Aaron Cook needs to bounce back after one of his worst starts of the season.

Cook takes the mound Sunday looking to lead the Rockies to their sixth straight home win against the Milwaukee Brewers.

A 16-game winner in 2008, Cook (2-4, 5.15 ERA) has struggled this season with the highest ERA among Colorado starters currently in the rotation. He's coming off one of his poorest starts of this year, allowing five runs and nine hits over 3 1-3 innings Tuesday in a 9-3 loss at Minnesota.

"For three innings, it looked like it had the makings of an Aaron Cook complete game on the road," manager Jim Tracy said. "But by the fourth inning the ball went back to the middle of the plate and the ball lacked movement, and they hit it. Period."

Most of his struggles have come on the road, though, and the right-hander will try to snap a three-game winless streak when he returns home. He is 2-0 with a 2.62 ERA in five starts at Coors Field this season.

Cook gave up five runs in 5 1-3 innings of a 5-4 loss at Milwaukee (28-40) in his season debut April 7, but is 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA in five home games against the Brewers.

The Rockies (36-32) have also enjoyed success at Coors Field against Milwaukee, winning their fifth straight in the series with Saturday's 8-7 victory. The Rockies scored three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to erase a three-run deficit.

Playing its second straight game without injured shortstop and leading hitter Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado had 11 hits, getting home runs from Miguel Olivo and Seth Smith. Jonathan Herrera went 4 for 5 as the Rockies broke out after scoring 11 runs in the previous four games combined.

Smith entered in the seventh inning as a defensive replacement and tied the game at four with his 10th homer, tying him for the team lead.

"When you're pinch-hitting, that's your worth - that one at-bat," he told the Rockies' official website.

Colorado has won 11 of 12 against Milwaukee at home and will look to complete its second straight sweep there after taking all three from Toronto last weekend.

Randy Wolf (5-6, 5.08) will take the mound for the Brewers trying to snap Milwaukee's three-game losing streak.

Wolf gave up two runs and three hits in seven innings of a 12-2 road win over the Angels on Monday. That outing was in stark contrast to his previous two starts during which the left-hander was tagged for 13 runs and 15 hits over 11 1-3 innings. He gave up a career-worst five home runs in a 9-4 loss to the Cubs on June 9.

"I was very discouraged after that game, but it may turn out to be the best thing that could have happened," he said. "Sometimes you need to get your butt kicked to get yourself in the right frame of mind."

Wolf is making his second start this season against the Rockies after giving up four runs and nine hits in 6 2-3 innings of a 7-5 victory April 6 at Miller Park.
