Brewers-Rockies Preview
Aug 14, 2010 - 6:27 AMVideo
Milwaukee (54-62) at Colorado (59-55), 8:10 p.m. EDT
A comeback victory in their last game might be what the Colorado Rockies need to jump-start a potential push toward a postseason berth.
The Rockies look to build on that win as they continue their weekend set with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night at Coors Field.
Troy Tulowitzki hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to help Colorado (60-55) overcome a three-run deficit and beat Milwaukee 5-4 on Friday. The Rockies have won six of seven at Coors, where they are 37-19 this season.
"We've had some magic here," Tulowitzki said. "We've had some pretty impressive comebacks. We keep that in the back of our minds, especially at home."
Though the Rockies continue to play well at home and have won nine of 14 overall since losing a season-high eight in a row, they are third in the NL West - 8 1/2 games behind first-place San Diego. Colorado's more realistic path to the playoffs could be through the wild card, sitting fourth in that race but within five games of San Francisco for the lead.
"Everybody needs to play their part and do their job," Tulowitzki told the Rockies' official website. "We're not going to do it individually. It has to be a team effort."
Tulowitzki has been a major contributor of late, going 17 for 35 with two home runs and eight RBIs in nine games.
Carlos Gonzalez, meanwhile, raised his NL-leading average to .324 with two hits Friday. Hitting .438 with 16 RBIs in his last 15 games, Gonzalez is 10 for 19 with three RBIs in four games against the Brewers in 2010.
Looking to win two in a row for the first time since July 31-Aug. 1, the Rockies turn to Esmil Rogers (2-2, 4.79 ERA) as he makes his second straight start since being recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Rogers, mostly used out of Colorado's bullpen before spending most of June and July in the minors, won his return to the Rockies on Sunday as he allowed four runs in six innings and doubled twice in an 8-4 victory at Pittsburgh. He now faces Milwaukee for the first time.
Rickie Weeks had two doubles and Casey McGehee drove in a run Friday for the Brewers (54-63), who have lost four of five.
Though McGehee had his consecutive hits streak snapped at nine after grounding out in the first inning, the third baseman is 15 for 31 with 10 RBIs in his last eight games.
"Very few people have stretches like that," manager Ken Macha told the Brewers' official website.
McGehee is 9 for 23 against the Rockies this season.
Chris Narveson (9-7, 5.62) takes the ball for the Brewers, having gone 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA in his last three starts. The left-hander allowed three runs in six innings of a 7-4, 10-inning loss to Arizona on Monday.
Though Narveson has allowed a run in two relief appearances versus the Rockies this year, he gave up three in five innings of a 7-5, 11-inning loss at Colorado in his only start against them Sept. 29.
Milwaukee has lost 12 of 14 at Coors Field while posting a 7.19 ERA.
