Rockies, Mets play two at Citi Field

Apr 14, 2011 - 2:27 PM (Sports Network) - Already off to their best 10-game start in club history, the Colorado Rockies have a shot at doing something they have never accomplished before: sweep a four-game set with the New York Mets.

In order to do that, the Rockies will need to win a pair of games this afternoon as they close out their series versus the Mets with a doubleheader at Citi Field.

Colorado has won its last four games, winning three in a row by one run to improve to 8-2 on the season. The Rockies took the opener of this set on Monday by a 7-6 margin, then got an unexpected night off due to Tuesday's rainout.

The downtime didn't slow down Troy Tulowitzki, who hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning of last night's 5-4 victory while falling just a triple shy of the cycle.

Since going hitless in his first two games of the season, Tulowitzki is batting .393 (11-for-28) with five homers and 12 RBI.

"We're a good team," Tulowitzki said. "Even when we're down we think we're going to find a way to come back and get a win."

Ryan Spilborghs added a solo homer, his first of the season, Esmil Rogers got the win after yielding three runs over 5 2/3 innings. Huston Street earned his sixth save of the season.

Carlos Beltran and Angel Pagan both posted two hits and drove in a run for the Mets, who have lost three straight and six of seven. Jon Niese was charged with five runs over six innings in defeat.

"I made two or three mistakes that I paid for. They punished me for them," Niese said.

The first game of Thursday's doubleheader will feature Colorado's Greg Reynolds starting opposite of R.A. Dickey for New York.

Reynolds made his first start of the season -- and first appearance in the majors since Sept. 21, 2008, on Saturday in Pittsburgh and did not factor into the decision of a 6-4 win. He allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings.

The 25-year-old righty is 0-1 with a 4.85 earned run average in two career starts versus the Mets, but will be facing them for the first time since June 22, 2008.

Dickey, meanwhile, will face the Rockies for the first time in his career after splitting his first two starts of 2011. The right-hander was originally set to start last night's game prior to Tuesday's postponement.

The 36-year-old knuckleballer following up a win at Florida on April 3 with a setback to the Nationals on Friday. Dickey yielded three runs on six hits and five walks over five innings.

The backend pits a pair of left-handers against each other in Colorado's Jorge De La Rosa set to battle New York's Chris Capuano.

The 30-year-old De La Rosa has only given up two runs through his first two starts, but a recurring blister problem on his middle finger has prevented him from going past the sixth inning. He beat Arizona on April 2 with 5 1/3 scoreless innings, then got a no-decision versus Pittsburgh on Friday after yielding two runs on two hits and three walks over five innings.

De La Rosa is 3-1 with a 4.30 ERA in nine career games versus the Mets, including three starts.

Capuano, meanwhile, will make his third appearance of the season today and second straight start. He took the mound to start Saturday's game versus Washington and was credited with the win despite giving up four runs over six innings with eight strikeouts.

The 32-year-old is 4-3 with a 2.98 ERA in nine career meetings with the Rockies, all but one of those starts.

These two clubs split their six meetings a season ago, with the Mets winning two of three at home.
