LA lefty Lilly faces former team at Wrigley Field
Apr 23, 2011 - 3:18 PM (Sports Network) - Ex-Cub Ted Lilly hopes for another dose of offensive run support today when the Los Angeles Dodgers invade Wrigley Field in Chicago again for the second of three weekend games against his former team. The Dodgers erupted for six runs in a decisive third inning on the way to a 12-2 win in Friday's series opener.
Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs for Los Angeles, which got a two-run single from A.J. Ellis in the third.
Chad Billingsley (2-1) gave up seven hits and walked three in 6 1/3 innings, but allowed two runs to help the Dodgers win their third straight.
Cubs starter Casey Coleman (1-1) didn't make it out of the third, surrendering six hits and walking four while giving up all six runs.
Kosuke Fukudome had three hits to lead Chicago, which split a doubleheader against San Diego on Wednesday.
Lilly had three of his best major-league seasons with the Cubs from 2007-09 after pitching for Montreal, the New York Yankees, Oakland and Toronto between 1999 and 2006.
He won 15 games with the Blue Jays in 2006, then rattled off 15, 17 and 12 wins for the Cubs in 95 starts through 2009 before splitting the 2010 season between Chicago and Los Angeles, going 10-12.
He was winless in his initial three starts this season before prevailing the last time out while tossing seven shutout innings in a 4-2 defeat of Atlanta on April 18.
Lilly has never faced the Cubs.
Well-traveled veteran Ryan Dempster takes the hill for Chicago with the chance to even his major-league record in his 490th appearance.
Dempster, who was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1995, played for the Florida Marlins and Cincinnati Reds before winding up with the Cubs to begin the 2004 season.
He saved 33, 24 and 28 games in three years as a full-time closer, then won 17, 11 and 15 in three seasons as a starter.
Dempster defeated Houston, 5-4, for his lone win of the season on April 11 and is 7-3 lifetime against Los Angeles with six saves and a 2.31 earned run average in 22 appearances.
The Dodgers have won nine of 13 against the Cubs, but did lose two of three at Wrigley Field a season ago.
