Mets hope to continue surge vs. D'Backs

(Sports Network) - The suddenly-surging New York Mets can win an unlikely fourth in a row today when they close out a three-game series with the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field.

The Mets split their initial eight games of 2011, then lost nine of the next 10 before starting another successful run that stretched to three games with a 6-4 win in Saturday's middle game.

Daniel Murphy hit RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings and Jason Bay hit a solo homer and drove in three runs for the Mets, who also got a solo home run from Ike Davis.

Lefty Jonathon Niese makes his fifth attempt at a first win of the season in the series finale for New York. He's coming off a hard-luck 6-1 loss to Houston in which he allowed seven hits and two runs in six innings.

He allowed two, six and five runs in his initial three starts of 2011 while losing twice and getting a no-decision.

In 23 overall innings, he's surrendered 26 hits and 15 runs.

Niese is 0-1 in two career starts against Arizona with an 8.68 earned run average in 9 1/3 innings.

The Diamondbacks counter with unbeaten newcomer Armando Galarraga, who goes for a fourth straight win since coming over in an offseason trade with the Detroit Tigers.

The Venezuelan, who won just four times in 25 appearances in his final stint with the Tigers, has beaten the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis and Cincinnati in three National League starts.

He's given up 18 hits and 12 runs in 18 innings and has benefitted from 24 runs of support in the three starts.

Galarraga won his lone career start against the Mets after allowing five hits and four runs in six innings.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Dillon Gee (2-0) went six innings in the start, allowing two earned runs on five hits to pick up the win. He also struck out five and walked one.

Miguel Montero hit a solo homer for Arizona, which got an RBI apiece from Stephen Drew, Gerardo Parra and Ryan Roberts.

Barry Enright (0-2) went 5 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on 12 hits to take the loss.

Arizona has dominated its series with the Mets, winning five of six meetings a year ago and 11 of the past 16.
