Mets sweep D-Backs

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - David Wright clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning and added a solo shot in the fourth, as the New York Mets completed a three-game sweep with an 8-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field.

Jason Pridie belted a three-run homer for the Mets, who have won a season-high four straight games following a 2-12 stretch. New York starter Jon Niese (1-3) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits over seven innings.

"It's always good to get the offense going. It makes me a lot more comfortable on the mound," Niese said. "We're playing good baseball right now."

Stephen Drew finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in two runs for Arizona, which has lost four in a row. Armando Galarraga (3-1) surrendered six runs -- two earned -- on four hits and four walks in three innings to absorb the loss.

Wright followed a one-out walk to Daniel Murphy with a blast to left field.

The Mets then put up a four-spot in the third, highlighted by the first major league home run of Pridie's career. Wright reached on a throwing error to begin the frame and took third on a Carlos Beltran double. Galarraga intentionally walked Ike Davis to load the bases with one out for Josh Thole, who plated a run with a sacrifice fly before Pridie launched a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right-center for a 6-0 New York lead.

Arizona pushed home a run in the fourth on a groundout, but Wright countered in the bottom of the inning with a two-out homer off Diamondbacks reliever Josh Collmenter. Three consecutive singles by Beltran, Jason Bay and Davis produced another run.

Drew singled home Ryan Roberts in the sixth and stroked a run-scoring double in the eighth to draw the visitors within four.

Tim Byrdak and Ryota Igarashi combined to pitch the ninth for the Mets.

"It's frustrating. No one likes to lose," D'backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "We had our opportunities. We were 2-for-14 with men in scoring position."

Game Notes

New York swept Arizona at home in a three-game series for the first time since May 19-21, 2000...Beltran turned 34 on Sunday.
