O's hope to add to Chicago's home woes

Apr 30, 2011 - 2:48 PM (Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox try to avoid a sixth straight home loss this evening when they continue their four-game set against the Baltimore Orioles at U.S. Cellular Field.

Baltimore drew first blood in this series on Friday, as Matt Wieters had a two-run homer and a two-run double, helping the Orioles to a 10-4 victory. Brian Roberts went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Luke Scott smacked a solo shot for Baltimore, which has won three of its last four.

Jake Arrieta (3-1) lasted five innings, and took the win for the O's after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks. Chicago's John Danks (0-4) allowed five runs in six innings and took the loss.

A.J. Pierzynski and Brent Lillibridge homered for the White Sox, who have dropped three in a row and six of eight. After winning four of their first six on the South Side, Chicago has now dropped five in a row in front of its fans.

"Every time we made a mistake, the other teams take advantage of it, big- time," said Chicago acting manager Joey Cora. "But it's been collective. Not only one guy messing up. The whole team and the coaching staff, we've been messing up."

The White Sox also played without manager Ozzie Guillen, who was suspended two games for his actions during Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees.

Heading to the hill for the Orioles this evening will be righty Chris Tillman, who has lost his last two starts. After not being able to get out of the second inning against the Yankees two starts ago, Tillman rebounded with a decent effort on April 18 against Minnesota, but took the loss nonetheless. Tillman allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings of that start and fell to 0-2 to go along with a 6.16 ERA.

Tillman, who has ben bothered by soreness in his right groin, has never faced the White Sox.

Chicago, meanwhile, will counter with righty Phil Humber, who carried a no- hitter into the seventh inning of his last start against the Yankees. Humber gave up just one hit over seven scoreless innings in that one and improved to 2-2, while lowering his ERA to 3.20.

"You don't expect to hold an offense like that down especially just giving up one hit but you got to make pitches and not worry about who?s up there at the plate," said Humber.

This will be Humber's first start against the Orioles, but he has faced them four times out of the bullpen with recording a decision.

Baltimore took four of its seven matchups with the White Sox last season.
