Renteria caps Reds' comeback win over Marlins

The Reds scored three times in the eighth to tie the game and loaded the bases with no outs in the 10th inning. Florida, though, was in a position to escape the frame as Ramon Hernandez grounded into a fielder's choice with five fielder's in the infield that saw a forceout at home. Paul Janish then popped out to first base for the second out.
Renteria, though, stepped up to the plate and hit a single to left off Michael Dunn (0-1) for the win.
Francisco Cordero (1-0) got the win for throwing two scoreless innings for the Reds, who dropped a 7-6 decision in the opener on Friday.
"I know when I come in with a tie game my job is to go as many innings and give the guys a chance to win, it worked tonight," said Cordero.
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision as Edinson Volquez was charged with one run on two hits with five walks and four strikeouts for Cincinnati. Josh Johnson gave up five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven frames for Florida, which came into the game having won four of five.
"These are the games where we have to execute better and we didn't do that today, we wasted a bunch of chances," said Florida manager Edwin Rodriguez.
The Reds' bats were pretty quiet through the first seven innings and the team trailed, 3-0, going into the eighth.
Randy Choate struck out the first two batters of the inning and Edward Mujica then took over on the mound. Brandon Phillips kept the inning alive with a double, and a single from Jonny Gomes, that saw him advance to second on the play, got the Reds on the board. Miguel Cairo then singled to make it a one- run game.
After Hernandez singled, Ryan Webb took the hill, but Paul Janish tied the game with a single to left.
Florida got on the board in the first as Chris Coghlan led off with a walk, stole second then came home on an Omar Infante single for a 1-0 lead.
That was it for the scoring until the eighth inning when the Marlins added to their lead on a two-run, pinch-hit double from Wes Helms.
