Nats, Giants wrap up set in D.C.

May 2, 2011 - 2:35 PM (Sports Network) - Lefty Tom Gorzelanny can pick up his first win of the season and pitch his Washington Nationals to a series win over the defending world champions when they take on the San Francisco Giants tonight in the finale of a four-game series at Nationals Park.

Washington won its second of three against San Francisco on Sunday, as Ivan Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI to lead the Nationals to a 5-2 win.

Jordan Zimmermann (2-4) threw six innings for the win, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four.

Matt Cain (2-2) took the loss in six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

The loss was the Giants' seventh in 10 games.

Gorzelanny, 28, is 3-0 in four lifetime starts against San Francisco with a stingy 2.33 earned run average across 27 innings.

Included in the quartet is a shutout. Overall, he's allowed 24 hits and seven runs with 19 strikeouts and six walks.

He has not fared as well in four starts in 2011, having allowed 16 hits and 11 runs in 22 2/3 innings.

He picked up a hard-luck no-decision against the New York Mets in his most recent start, allowing just a run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a game the Nationals lost, 6-3, on April 27.

Washington is 1-3 in games he's pitched.

For the Giants, lefty Madison Bumgarner tries for the sixth time to pick up his first win of 2011.

A seven-game winner in 18 starts last season, the North Carolina native has given up at least four runs in three of five starts this season, allowing 30 hits and 17 runs in just 23 1/3 innings.

He was also on the losing end after pitching well on April 27 in Pittsburgh and gave up a run on five hits in six innings of a 2-0 loss to the Pirates.

The Giants are 0-5 in games he's pitched.

Bumgarner defeated the Nats in his lone meeting with them in 2010, permitting a run on seven hits in six innings with no walks and six strikeouts.

The Giants won four of six against the Nationals a season ago.
