King Felix gets the ball in Baltimore

May 11, 2011 - 2:35 PM (Sports Network) - Reigning Cy Young Award winner Feliz Hernandez can record a fourth consecutive win tonight when the Seattle Mariners head to Baltimore for the second test of a three-game set with the Orioles at Camden Yards.

A 25-year-old Venezuelan, Hernandez earned recognition as the American League's top pitcher in 2010 in spite of posting just a 13-12 record on one of the league's worst teams.

He threw a career-high 249 2/3 innings, allowed only 194 hits and struck out 232 batters while posting a stingy and league-leading 2.27 earned run average.

The Seattle ace got off to a sluggish start in his follow-up season, winning just once in his initial four starts before beginning the recently successful stretch with a 1-0 defeat of Oakland on April 21.

He's subsequently beaten Detroit and the Chicago White Sox and gotten a no- decision at Boston while allowing a combined 19 hits and seven runs in 29 2/3 innings across the four outings.

Hernandez is 2-3 with a 3.22 ERA in 12 career starts against Baltimore.

The Orioles will go with 23-year-old righty Chris Tillman, who'll make the 30th start of his big-league career and his first against the Mariners.

The former second-round pick of the Mariners scored his lone win of the season on April 30 against the White Sox after allowing six hits and a run in five innings of a 6-2 triumph.

He had two losses and two no-decisions in his initial four starts of 2011, then lost a subsequent outing, 9-1, at Kansas City after allowing 10 hits and eight runs in 3 2/3 innings.

In his first 29 career appearances, Tillman has recorded a 5.90 ERA across 146 1/3 innings with 89 strikeouts and 165 hits allowed. Opposition batters have also hit .286 against him.

In Tuesday's opener, Matt Wieters' RBI single in the 13th inning lifted the Orioles to a 7-6 win.

Felix Pie, who entered the game in the eighth as a pinch-runner, also added an RBI single in the 13th for Baltimore, while Jeremy Accardo (2-0) was given the win despite allowing the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th for the Orioles, who ended a four-game slide.

Brandon League (0-2) took the loss and the blown save for the Mariners, who have lost three in a row.

Seattle won six of its nine matchups with the O's last season.
