Harang seeks sixth win of year at Coors Field
May 14, 2011 - 2:32 PM (Sports Network) - Aaron Harang goes after his sixth win of the season this afternoon when the San Diego Padres resume a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. After winning six games in each of the last three seasons, Harang has been a pleasant surprise for the Padres this year, going 5-2 with a 4.07 earned run average. Harang snapped a two-start losing streak his last time out, as he held the Arizona Diamondbacks to two runs and eight hits in seven innings on Sunday after his mother threw out the first pitch.
"It's a special day, you know. All these guys take it to heart," Harang said. "It means a lot to us. And to be able to get to pitch for the first time on Mother's Day -- and to get a win -- was pretty big."
Harang has faced the Rockies seven times and is 4-2 against them with a 3.70 ERA.
Colorado, meanwhile, will counter with right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, who is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA. Chacin did not get a decision on Monday against the New York Mets, as he allowed just a run and two hits in six innings. However, he walked six batters and has issued 10 free passes in his last two starts.
"Today I didn't have my best stuff," Chacin said. "I really lost the release point of my fastball, but my breaking ball was really good."
This will be Chacin's first-ever start against the Padres, but he has faced them three times out of the bullpen, pitching to an 8.10 ERA without recording a decision.
The Rockies drew first blood in this series on Friday, as Troy Tulowitzki homered among his three hits and drove in three runs to help Colorado to a 12-7 victory.
Jorge De La Rosa (5-1) managed to snag the win despite giving up nine hits and five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
The Rockies, who scored five times over the first two innings before adding three insurance runs in the eighth, snapped a two-game skid and won for just the second time in eight games.
"You knew it was coming," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said of the outburst.
Cameron Maybin had a 4-for-4 night with a pair of homers and three RBI for the Padres. Dustin Moseley (1-5) allowed nine hits and six runs in four innings to suffer the loss.
"[Moseley] got some breaking balls up in the strike zone that they took advantage of. He just couldn't get in a groove whatsoever," Padres manager Bud Black said.
On the injury front, the Rockies may be without first baseman Todd Helton today. Helton had to leave Friday's contest with tightness is his left calf.
Colorado won 12 of its 18 matchups with the Padres last season.
