Former teammates Buehrle, Garland meet in White Sox-Dodgers tilt
May 21, 2011 - 2:38 PM (Sports Network) - Mark Buehrle tries to win his third straight decision when he faces ex-White Sox teammate Jon Garland and the rest of the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field.Buehrle is coming off a 6 1/3-inning victory at Oakland on Sunday when he scattered seven hits and allowed three runs. The lefty has posted a 2-1 record with a 1.17 ERA in three starts against the Dodgers.
Garland, who pitched for the White Sox from 2000-07, is 0-2 over his last four starts, although he's not given up more than three runs in any of his last five appearances. The righty has received little run support as the Dodgers have scored a total of three runs over the last three games in which he's appeared. Most recently, Monday against Milwaukee, Garland scattered seven hits and surrendered two runs in six innings of a 2-1 loss.
This will be Garland's second start against the White Sox. He gave up three runs over six innings for the Angels on May 15, 2008 and took a no-decision in the contest.
Last night, Juan Castro hit a run-scoring single to ignite a three-run 10th inning and give the Dodgers a 6-4 victory.
Russ Mitchell's homer with two outs in the ninth inning tied the game for Los Angeles. Jamey Carroll went 4-for-5 with two runs scored for the Dodgers, who won for just the second time in seven games.
Kenley Jansen (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief of starter Ted Lilly. Lilly allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings. He also struck out five.
Sergio Santos (2-1) took the loss and his first blown save of the season when he allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings. Philip Humber left after seven innings in which he allowed two runs on five hits and a walk as the White Sox ended a three-game win streak.
These teams haven't met since 2009 when the White Sox took two of three at U.S. Cellular Field.
