Dodgers' Kuroda seeks win column versus Angels
Jun 25, 2011 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - It has been a while since Hiroki Kuroda claimed a victory, but the veteran hurler will look to snap his winless streak this afternoon when he takes the hill for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle matchup of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.May 17th was the last time Kuroda found himself in the win column. Since then the right-hander has lost five of his six outings. The last time the crafty veteran was on the hill, he tossed seven scoreless innings against Houston, but because of a lack of run support he did not factor in the 1-0 decision.
Kuroda has made only one career start against the Angels, and in that outing the Japanese native suffered a loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.
For the Angels, they will hand the ball to young Tyler Chatwood, who snapped a four-game winless streak with a victory over the New York Mets. In that win, the 21-year-old tossed seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits, while also striking out four batters.
Chatwood has never faced the Dodgers, but this will be his seventh road start on the year. In his previous six he has posted a 2-1 ledger with a 3.74 ERA.
In Friday's opener, Erick Aybar had three hits, including a two-run homer, to lead the Angels past the Dodgers, 8-3.
Dan Haren (7-5) went six innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits and a walk in the Angels' fourth victory in five games.
"It was a circus out there. I pitched out of a some jams," said Haren. "I struggled to put guys away. I'm just glad we won."
Rubby De La Rosa (3-2) allowed five runs on nine hits and four walks while fanning six through six innings to take the loss, the Dodgers' second straight after a three-game win streak.
"Rubby struggled with his command at times. He got a little frustrated tonight," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said about his starter.
Anaheim won five of six matchups with the Dodgers a year ago and swept a three-game set at Chavez Ravine from June 11-13.
