Rockies, White Sox begin set at Coors Field

Jun 28, 2011 - 2:43 PM (Sports Network) - Jason Hammel and the rest of the Colorado Rockies will try to change their Chicago luck tonight when they face off against the visiting White Sox in the opener of a three-game interleague series at Coors Field.

The Rockies began the week on a down note in the Windy City, when Carlos Pena and Aramis Ramirez each had two home runs and three RBI as the Chicago Cubs took a 7-3 win over the Rockies in the make-up of an April 27 rainout at Wrigley Field.

Carlos Gonzalez slugged two homers in his second multi-homer game of the season for Colorado.

Starter Jhoulys Chacin (8-5) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over five frames.

The loss was the third straight for the Rockies, now six games back of front- running San Francisco in the National League West.

The White Sox, who dropped the finale of a three-game set on Sunday against Washington, are third in the AL's Central Division and five games behind first-place Detroit.

On Sunday in Chicago, Danny Espinosa cracked a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Nationals to a 2-1 win.

Philip Humber (7-4) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before it was broken up by Jerry Hairston's leadoff single. Humber worked 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits to take the loss.

Carlos Quentin and Juan Pierre smacked doubles and Paul Konerko collected an RBI single for the White Sox, who have lost six of their past 11 games.

Hammel, a 10-game winner in each of his two seasons with Colorado, aims for a second win in three starts since ending a winless skid that had stretched from May 5-June 11.

He finally broke through with a 13-6 win over the Tigers on June 17, allowing six runs in 6 1/3 innings.

One start since resulted in another loss, however, when the 28-year-old was touched for four runs on five hits in six innings of a 4-3 defeat at Cleveland.

He is 0-1 in five career meetings with the White Sox.

Chicago counters with righty Gavin Floyd, who'll seek a first win since June 1.

The 28-year-old former first-round draft pick was a 7-4 winner at Fenway Park three starts ago, but has since dropped two decisions as the White Sox have gone 0-3 in his outings.

The most recent defeat came June 20 against the Cubs, when Floyd allowed six runs on five hits in five innings of a 6-3 loss.

He's 0-1 in two lifetime starts against Colorado, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits in just 9 2/3 innings.

The White Sox swept a three-game set in the last meeting at Coors Field back in 2005, but the Rockies countered by winning two of three in Chicago in '08.
