Blue Jays slug past Indians

Jul 9, 2011 - 3:01 AM Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Travis Snider knocked in five runs, which included a two-run homer, as the Blue Jays staved off another comeback from the Cleveland Indians and won 11-7 in the second tilt of a four-game series.

Rajai Davis went 3-for-4 and brought in four runs for Toronto, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Edwin Encarnacion had four hits and scored four times.

Jo-Jo Reyes (4-7) got the win for the Jays, allowing three unearned runs on eight hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Travis Buck pushed across two runs with a double to spark a potential eighth- inning rally for the Tribe. But the threat was stifled as the Indians lost for just the third time in nine games.

Michael Brantley ended with four hits and knocked in a pair of runs, while starter Mitch Talbot (2-6) suffered the loss for Cleveland. Talbot was roughed up for eight runs on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Trailing 9-3, Cleveland chipped away with three runs in the eighth and looked to duplicate Thursday's game when Travis Hafner blasted a game-winning grand slam in the ninth.

Asdrubal Cabrera had a bases-loaded RBI single. Then Hafner had a chance to play hero again with the bags jammed, but struck out. Buck, however, did follow up with a two-run double for a 9-6 contest.

But the Blue Jays kept the comeback at bay with Snider's two-run double into the right-center gap that pushed it to a five-run game in the ninth.

The Indians could only add one run in the ninth with Brantley's RBI single.

The Blue Jays loaded the bases with no outs in the second to get a three-run rally started.

Adam Lind singled, Aaron Hill walked and Encarnacion singled to fill them up, and Snider grounded out to first to bring home Lind. After J.P. Arencibia struck out, Davis lined the ball into left to plate both Hill and Encarnacion.

The Indians bounced right back to close the gap to a one run in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on the corners and none out, Jack Hannahan singled in Matt LaPorta and two batters later, Brantley hit a chopper to first to plate Austin Kearns.

Toronto, though, pushed it back to a three-run lead in the fourth when Encarnacion roped a leadoff double and moved to third on Arencibia's groundout. Davis then came up with an RBI single and touched home on Yunel Escobar's double into right field.

Snider hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Later that inning, Davis, who reached on a fielder's choice, stole third and scored on a missed catch error by Hannahan during the play to push it to a 8-2 game.

Indians got a run in the sixth on Hafner's hard hit grounder that was botched by Lind at first to score Brantley.

The bottom of the Jays' lineup continued to hurt the Indians in the eighth when Davis doubled in Snider for a 9-3 lead.

Game Notes

Talbot has lost his last five decisions...Cleveland left 13 runners on base and was just 6-for-22 with runners in scoring position...Cleveland took two of three from the Blue Jays earlier this season.
