Rockies blank Brewers, Braun's hit streak ends

Jul 16, 2011 - 6:00 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Juan Nicasio and a pair of relievers combined on a four-hit shutout, boosting Colorado to a 4-0 win over Milwaukee in the continuation of a four-game series.

Nicasio (4-2) surrendered the four hits and fanned four over seven innings, moving his Coors Field record to 4-0 this season. Matt Lindstrom and Huston Street each threw one inning in Colorado's fourth victory in five games. The Rockies have won 15 of the last 18 at home against the Brewers.

"He did a little something tonight that we haven't seen a whole lot of obviously since his arrival from Tulsa," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said of Nicasio. "There were a couple of different occasions where he got behind in the count a little bit, but threw sliders for strikes to get back into the count."

Todd Helton knocked in two runs for the Rockies. Dexter Fowler, recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Colorado Springs, doubled and scored twice.

Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun went 0-for-3 and saw his career-best 23-game hitting streak snapped.

Chris Narveson (6-6) was charged with five hits and three runs over six innings.

The Brewers fell to 16-31 on the road this season and have dropped 12 of their last 15 away contests.

"We're kind of in that rut where we're seeing what it takes to get that winning way on the road," Narveson said. "I think once we find it we'll be fine, but it's just been inconsistent trying to find it."

Fowler doubled to left leading off the bottom of the first, went to third on a groundout from Mark Ellis and scored on a wild pitch.

Ellis doubled with one out in the third and came home on Helton's single to center.

It became 3-0 in the fifth, thanks in part to Fowler's speed. He walked and stole second. Helton walked ahead of Tulowitzki's double to center field.

Helton singled in Ellis in the seventh, and the rest was up to Nicasio and the bullpen. After Prince Fielder doubled with two outs in the seventh, the final seven Milwaukee batters were retired in order. Braun's final chance to extend his hit streak came in the seventh, but he grounded into a double play. Braun was on deck when Nyjer Morgan struck out to end the game.

Game Notes

Nicasio, making his ninth major league start, threw 64 of his 97 pitches for strikes...Ellis went 2-for-4 and is hitting .500 (12-for-24) in five career games at Coors Field.
