ChiSox, Indians set for twinbill in Cleveland

It wasn't long ago that both the Indians and White Sox were battling with Detroit for the top spot in the division, but the Tigers soon separated themselves from the pack and clinched the title last weekend.
The Indians currently reside in second, but are just a 1 1/2-games ahead of the White Sox.
Chicago stopped a seven-game losing streak on Sunday, as A.J. Pierzynski finished 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI to lead the White Sox to a 10-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Paul Konerko clubbed a solo home run, Brent Morel added a two-run double and Juan Pierre added a pair of hits for the White Sox, who won for only the second time in their last 10 tries.
With the home run, Konerko has reached 30 home runs and 100 RBIs for the fifth time in his career.
"You put the work in. I think I've been the last couple years trying to switch up on what goals are and what is good," Konerko said of his accomplishment. "To me, trying to show for as many games, 150-plus games. I feel like if I do that and stay healthy I make those approach goals more of my goals. The byproduct will be the numbers."
John Danks (7-12) worked six innings to earn the win, giving up four runs -- three earned -- on 10 hits.
Heading to the hill for the White Sox in game one today will be righty Gavin Floyd, who is 12-11 with a 4.42 ERA. Floyd lost last Tuesday to Detroit, but has won six of his last eight decisions. He is also 6-3 in 12 starts versus the Indians with a 4.33 ERA.
Young Dylan Axelrod will get the call in the second game and will try for his first major league win. The 26-year-old righty pitched well in his first big league start on Wednesday against the Tigers, but did not get a decision, as he allowed two runs and six hits in six innings of a 6-5 loss.
Cleveland had a three-game winning streak stopped on Sunday when it lost 12-6 to the Seattle Mariners in a rain-shortened, eight-inning affair.
David Huff (2-6) absorbed the loss after he was tagged for nine runs -- five earned -- on seven hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings.
"Ugly day, disappointing loss. Gave David some runs to work with and unfortunately he had a very rough day," said Cleveland manager Manny Acta.
Hoping for a better effort today the Tribe will turn to struggling right- hander Fausto Carmona, who has lost his last three decisions. Carmona has just two ins in the second half of the season and is a miserable 6-15 on the year to go along with a 5.26 ERA.
Going for the Tribe in the night cap will be 23-year-old righty Zach McAllister, who was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Monday. In two starts with the Indians this season McAllister has given up 10 earned runs on 15 hits over 7 1/3 innings.
Chicago has won nine of its 14 matchups with the Indians this season.
