Mets edge Rockies in 11 innings

David Wright laced a leadoff base hit up the middle off Matt Belisle (1-2) in the 11th and Lucas Duda followed with single, which allowed Wright to alertly get to third base.
After Scott Hairston grounded into a fielder's choice, Davis slapped one just under the glove of Troy Tulowitzki and into left field to bring home Wright.
Frank Francisco (1-1) earned the win despite giving up a game-tying solo homer to Carlos Gonzalez in the 10th, and Ramon Ramirez survived a couple of loud outs in the 11th to earn his first save of the season.
Wright added two hits and a pair of RBI, Kirk Nieuwenhuis finished 3-for-6 with an RBI double, Josh Thole added a solo homer and Hairston contributed an RBI single for the Mets, who have won five of their last six games.
"These guys battled very hard," said Mets manager Terry Collins. "There were some very positive things today."
Johan Santana pitched six shutout innings, giving up just two hits and three walks while fanning five, and Miguel Batista worked a scoreless seventh before the Mets got in trouble in the eighth.
Leading, 4-0, Jon Rauch began the frame for the Mets and got off to a good start by getting Marco Scutaro to fly out, but Dexter Fowler ripped a single and Gonzalez walked. After Tulowitzki grounded out, Michael Cuddyer drew a walk to load the bases with two down.
Todd Helton was then called up to the plate as a pinch-hitter against Mets reliever Tim Byrdak. After battling Byrdak to a 2-2 count, Helton crushed a middle-in slider deep down the right field line and it landed about four rows into the seats to tie the game at four for the Rockies.
The Mets grabbed the lead in the 10th when Nieuwenhuis doubled home pinch- hitter Mike Baxter to make it 5-4, but the Rockies came right back in the home half of the frame to tie it when Gonzalez launched one to right that just got over the wall.
Earlier, the Mets struck first with three runs in their first at-bat. Nieuwenhuis got things started with a single and Ruben Tejada followed with a base hit to put two men on. After Daniel Murphy struck out, Wright brought both runners home with a double down the left field line. Duda walked and Wright swiped third to put Mets on the corners. Hairston then knocked in Wright with a single into left field to give New York a 3-0 advantage.
New York extended its lead to 4-0 in the fifth when Thole clubbed a changeup deep to right and into the Rockies bullpen off Colorado starter Jamie Moyer.
"You're going to have some comeback wins and some tough losses," Moyer said. "But I think with a game like this, it showed some good resilience for our ball club."
