Mighty Dodgers put win streak on the line vs. Diamondbacks

May 22, 2012 - 3:05 PM (Sports Network) - Injuries or not, the Los Angeles Dodgers are tearing it up right now and will try to become the first team to 30 wins tonight in the continuation of a three-game series against the NL West-rival Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

The Dodgers are minus Matt Kemp, Juan Uribe, Jerry Hairston, Jr. and others, but have plenty of depth to overcome the odds. They proved that in last night's 6-1 victory over the D-Backs in the opener of this set. James Loney and Matt Treanor each hit two-run homers and Andre Ethier added a solo blast for the division-leading Dodgers, who have won five straight and 10 of 12 games.

Los Angeles, which owns the best winning percentage in baseball at .690, has scored at least six runs in five straight games and leads the NL West by seven games over San Francisco.

Dodgers' starter Chris Capuano allowed one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts through six innings to earn the win.

"It's great. I couldn't be having any more fun playing the game right now," Capuano said about his start to the season.

The Dodgers are counting on Aaron Harang to have his A-game when he takes the hill tonight against Arizona. Harang has won two straight starts and is coming off his best outing of the season in Thursday's 8-1 win at San Diego. Against his former club, Harang threw seven shutout innings and allowed four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

Harang, who has allowed just three earned runs in 21 innings pitched over his past three starts, improved to 3-2 with a 3.83 ERA in eight starts this season. The veteran right-hander is 2-2 in five road starts and 3-6 with a 1.99 ERA in 13 career games (12 starts) against the Diamondbacks.

Arizona had won three of four and four of six games until last night. Rookie starting pitcher Patrick Corbin was saddled with the loss after he gave up just two runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. Bryan Shaw gave up three runs in relief.

"I felt like I came back and worked a lot better and got some bad swings," Corbin said. "I kept the team in the game. I was getting guys out in front a little bit with my changeup."

Aaron Hill knocked in the lone run and catcher Miguel Montero left the game with a mild right groin strain. Montero is listed as day-to-day.

"I didn't feel any pop, thank God," Montero said. "It was just kind of crampy. It's still early in the season, you don't want it to get worse. You just take it step by step. Good news is it feels a lot better."

The Diamondbacks haven't played so well in the desert, losing 14 of their last 17 games in front of the home crowd.

Still searching for his first win since May 1 at Washington, Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill gets the nod tonight. He is 0-2 in his last three starts and did not pick up a decision in Thursday's 9-7 win at Colorado. He lasted five innings in that one, allowing four runs and five hits with a season high- tying six strikeouts and three walks.

Cahill, a right-hander, owns a 2-4 mark in eight starts and raised his ERA to 4.01. He is 0-3 in all three starts at home this season and defeated the Dodgers the only time he faced them in a 5-4 win on June 17, 2009, when he surrendered two unearned runs in 5 1/3 innings as a member of Oakland.

Arizona and Los Angeles split two meetings last week in L.A.
