A's shoot for sweep of Angels
May 1, 2013 - 2:28 PM (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics try to continue their recent mastery of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday when they attempt to complete another three-game sweep of them at O.co Coliseum.Oakland's dominance in this series continued on Tuesday, as Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-4 with four RBI while Seth Smith added a three-run double to lead the Athletics to a 10-6 win.
The A's have won three in a row overall following a 1-8 stretch, including a 19-inning marathon on Monday that lasted six hours, 32 minutes.
Tuesday's meeting was two hours, 53 minutes shorter, but the outcome wound up being the same as each of five matchups between these AL West rivals this season -- all Oakland victories.
The A's last won six straight against the Angels from June 23-Sept. 24, 2004.
Jarrod Parker (1-4) earned his first win of the season after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on six hits over six-plus innings, while Garrett Richards (1-2) was shelled for seven runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 frames to take the loss.
"It looked like he was aggressive right away," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Parker. "Hopefully we can get on a roll here in a couple outings and get him past a little bit of a tough time."
Mike Trout powered the Angels' offense with a double, a triple and four RBI, but the club fell for the sixth time in its last seven games.
"We've got to find a way to get leads, hold leads and win games even when you're not as deep as you need to be," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I tell you one thing right now, no one is going to feel sorry for you."
Getting the call for the A's on Wednesday will be lefty Tommy Milone, who has lost his last two starts after opening the year 3-0. Milone fell to Baltimore on Friday, despite a terrific showing that saw him surrender just an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 3.38 on the year.
"We always feel good when Tommy takes the mound, and even when we struggle to get runs and even hits, he still keeps you in the game," Melvin said.
Milone beat the Angels earlier in the year and is 3-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, will turn to lefty C.J. Wilson, who is 2-0 with a 4.30 ERA. Wilson defeated the Seattle Mariners on Friday, limiting them to three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also struck out nine and walked a pair in the win.
Wilson is 7-7 lifetime against the A's with a 3.70 ERA in 42 games (13 starts).
Oakland swept the Angels from April 9-11 in Anaheim.
