White Sox, Rockies start interleague set at Coors

Apr 7, 2014 - 2:16 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Right-hander Jordan Lyles makes his second start for the Colorado Rockies on Monday night when they host the Chicago White Sox to open a three-game interleague series at Coors Field.

It's the 27th career start for Lyles against an American League opponent, following last season when he pitched for the AL's newest entry - Houston Astros.

He's 6-12 with a 5.63 earned run average in the first 26 appearances against AL foes and will make his second career acquaintance with the White Sox, who pounded him for five runs in 4 1/3 innings of a 10-1 victory in a June 2012 game in Chicago.

Lyles, who was acquired in an offseason trade that sent outfielder Dexter Fowler to the Astros, was successful in his Rockies debut on Wednesday, earning a 6-5 victory in Miami after allowing four runs in five innings of work.

The White Sox also start a right-hander, Felipe Paulino, who's played in the majors with both Houston and Colorado.

The 30-year-old Dominican was 6-21 in 47 appearances with the Astros between 2007 and 2010, then went 0-4 in 18 relief appearances with the Rockies in 2011.

He spent 2012 with Kansas City and was 3-1 in seven starts, then did not pitch in the majors last season.

In his 2014 debut, he allowed an earned run in 5 1/3 innings against Minnesota while getting a no-decision in a game the White Sox won, 7-6.

Chris Sale tossed eight scoreless innings on Sunday in Kansas City, as the White Sox downed the Royals, 5-1, to avoid a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium.

Sale (2-0) scattered four hits and a walk while striking out six to pick up the win.

Meanwhile in Colorado, Wade Miley hurled eight strong innings and also went 3- for-4 with an RBI to help the Arizona Diamondbacks down the Rockies, 5-3, to avoid a three-game sweep.

Nolan Arenado and Drew Stubbs had one RBI apiece for the Rockies, who lost for only the second time in five tries.

Brett Anderson (0-2) allowed five runs -- three earned -- on 10 hits over six innings to absorb the loss.

Chicago took two of three from Colorado the last time these teams met back in 2011.
