Rolling Marlins resume set with Dodgers
May 3, 2014 - 2:30 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Even though Jacob Turner doesn't have a decision yet in 2014, it's been a long time since the Marlins right-hander has tasted victory.Turner gets another shot at attaining his first win since last July when he returns from the disabled list to pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday night.
Turner's first appearance of 2014 came April 3 against Colorado when he lasted six innings and gave up eight hits and five runs. He was then put on the DL due to a right shoulder strain.
Turner went 3-8 with a 3.74 ERA in 20 starts last year. His last victory came July 10 versus Atlanta. Since then, Turner has gone 0-7 in 13 starts. His only lifetime start against the Dodgers resulted in a no-decision.
Paul Maholm is coming off his first win in a Dodger uniform. One week ago, the southpaw limited the Rockies to just two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts over seven innings in LA's 6-3 triumph.
Over his career, Maholm has gone 6-6 with a 4.12 ERA in 13 starts against Miami.
Last night, Garrett Jones smacked three doubles and posted an RBI with a run scored as the Marlins earned a 6-3 win.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia cracked a solo homer among his two hits and scored twice for Miami, which was won four straight games. Tom Koehler (3-2) allowed three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings to notch the win.
Josh Beckett (0-1) faced his former club for just the second time in his career. He surrendered four runs on eight hits and a walk over 6 2/3 frames for the Dodgers, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
The 33-year-old Beckett was the second overall pick of the 1999 draft by the Florida Marlins and debuted with them in 2001. He spent five seasons with the franchise, with the highlight of his tenure coming in 2003, when he was named the World Series MVP during their second championship in club history.
The Dodgers won five of the seven meetings with the Marlins last season.
