Marlins pay a visit to Dodger Stadium

May 12, 2014 - 2:41 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Tom Koehler gets his second crack at the Los Angeles Dodgers in 10 days on Monday night, when his Miami Marlins visit Dodger Stadium to begin a three-game series.

Koehler was a 6-3 winner on May 2 at Marlins Park after allowing just three hits in seven innings. He followed that triumph with a 1-0 defeat of the New York Mets on Wednesday, when he gave up just two hits in eight innings.

Miami has struggled on the road, however, winning just three of 16 games as opposed to a 17-5 record at home.

In losing three straight at San Diego, no Marlins starter produced a quality start and the offense logged 31 strikeouts.

"We're coming off a monster homestand where everybody pitched well and everything was going great," manager Mike Redmond said. "Now we're being tested on the road and we'll find out what we're made of."

On the mound for Los Angeles is veteran Dan Haren, who had won four straight decisions before dropping his first of the season on Wednesday at Washington.

He's allowing a .300 batting average in the first inning in 2014, though it drops to .257 after that.

The Nationals scored twice in the first inning and recorded seven hits and three runs in six innings.

Haren is winless in his last five starts against the Marlins with a 4.85 earned run average, including three losses in 2013.

On Sunday in San Diego, Chris Denorfia collected two hits and two RBI, while the Padres used a four-run fourth inning and held on late to post a 5-4 victory in the finale of a four-game set.

Jeff Baker picked up a pair of hits and drove in a run while Christian Yelich added a solo homer for the Marlins, who entered the set having won five straight.

Henderson Alvarez (2-3) was charged in defeat with seven hits and five runs over just four full frames.

In Los Angeles, Pablo Sandoval smacked a tiebreaking single to spark San Francisco's three-run 10th inning, as the Giants secured a 7-4 win over the Dodgers in the finale of a four-game set.

Hanley Ramirez tied the game with a two-out, two-run homer off Sergio Romo in the bottom of the ninth, but the Giants scored three times in the 10th to regain control. Los Angeles closer Kenley Jansen (0-2) started the frame on the mound and promptly loaded the bases after sandwiching a pair of walks around a Hunter Pence single. Sandoval then ripped a single through the left side of the infield to score Angel Pagan, and after Brandon Hicks fanned, pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez looped a single into shallow left field to score Pence.

J.P. Howell then replaced Jansen on the mound and retired Gregor Blanco before uncorking a wild pitch that plated Buster Posey for a 7-4 San Francisco lead. Jean Machi stranded runners on second and third in the 10th to pick his first career save, while Romo (3-0) was credited with the win despite giving up Ramirez's game-tying blast in the ninth.

Yasiel Puig smacked a solo shot for the Dodgers, who have dropped four of their last five.
