Bradley returns to face Phillies
May 16, 2015 - 1:26 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Archie Bradley returns to a major league mound Saturday for the first time since being pegged in the head by a line drive. It was during an April 28 game when Bradley was struck by Carlos Gonzalez's liner in the second inning of Arizona's 12-5 win over the Colorado Rockies. Bradley was put on the 15-day disabled list the next day with a right sinus fracture.
Bradley's start Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phillies gives the righty a chance to stay unbeaten in his budding major league career. Bradley has made four starts with wins over the Dodgers and Rangers. He entered this season as Arizona's No. 1 pitching prospect, but despite a paltry 1.80 ERA, he's walked 11 batters.
Jerome Williams has lost his last two outings. The 33-year-old righty will try to end a three-start winless stretch when he takes the mound for the Phillies. Williams suffered a 4-3 home loss to the Pirates on Monday. He's 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 10 games (9 starts) against Arizona.
By virtue of Friday night's 4-3 triumph, Philadelphia has captured three consecutive games for the first time since a four-game winning streak from August 24-27, 2014.
On Friday, Jeff Francoeur drove in the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning as the Phillies earned a 4-3 victory. Francoeur's hit followed Freddy Galvis' game-tying two-run single. Ryan Howard opened the scoring with an RBI double in the sixth for the Phillies.
Phillies starter Chad Billingsley tossed six scoreless innings, but was removed after the first two batters reached in the seventh.
"Guys had some big hits there in the seventh inning," Billingsley said. "It was just an overall good team effort late in the game."
Arizona starter Chase Anderson gave up a run on three hits and walked three in 5 1/3 innings.
"It was a nice effort, but he threw a lot of pitches," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. "We have to really work on getting some earlier count outs."
Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run double and Ender Inciarte collected three hits for Arizona, which has dropped five of seven.
The Phillies are 6-0-1 over their last seven series against the Diamondbacks and haven't dropped a set versus Arizona since April 25-27, 2011. Philadelphia is 17-5 over its last 22 home games against the Diamondbacks.
