Lorenzen, Reds top Marlins

Jun 21, 2015 - 9:23 PM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Todd Frazier and Jay Bruce each hit a two-run home run and the Cincinnati Reds took the rubber match from the Miami Marlins, 5-2, on Sunday.

Michael Lorenzen (3-2) gave seven strong innings on the mound and chipped in at the plate with his third RBI of the season for the Reds, winners in four of five. He allowed both runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

"We're celebrating this successful hot streak," said Reds manager Bryan Price.

Dee Gordon had three hits and Justin Bour went deep for Miami, which got 5 2/3 shaky innings out of starter David Phelps (4-4). Phelps was responsible for all five runs on eight hits and a pair of walks to end a two-start winning streak.

"There were some chances that we had that we didn't take advantage of," said Marlins manager Dan Jennings.

Both starters struggled out of the gate, then settled down after allowing two runs apiece in the first two innings.

Gordon led off the game with a single, stole second and scored on a Giancarlo Stanton grounder to second. Cincinnati responded in the home half of the first, with Joey Votto's walk setting up Frazier's two-run homer to right.

Bour led off the top of the second with a solo shot to right, and it was 2-2 from there until the Reds got to Phelps again in the bottom of the sixth.

Votto led off the frame with a single to center, and Bruce came up two batters later and crushed a hanging breaking ball 10 rows deep in the right- field bleachers. Marlon Byrd then kept the inning alive with a two-out single and later scored on Lorenzen's poke to right.

Aroldis Chapman gave up consecutive singles and walked Adeiny Hechavarria to load the bases in the ninth inning, but struck out the side to strand all three runners and pick up his 15th save.

Game Notes

Votto's on-base streak extended to 29 games, the longest active streak in the majors ... Miami went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base ... Byrd and Eugenio Suarez had three hits apiece for Cincinnati.
