Cubs eye fifth straight win

Jun 24, 2015 - 11:58 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs go after a fifth straight win when they continue their four-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers from Wrigley Field.

Chicago won a thriller on Tuesday, as Chris Denorfia drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Cubs to a 1-0 victory.

Mike Baxter and Matt Szczur each singled and pinch-hitter Dexter Fowler worked a walk to load the bases off Joel Peralta (1-1) to start the 10th. Travis Wood came on to run for Fowler and Kenley Jansen took over on the mound.

Jansen got Addison Russell to ground into a fielder's choice that retired Baxter at home for the first out, but Denorfia hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field in the next at-bat, plating Szczur for a Cubs win.

Chris Coghlan doubled and Jason Motte (5-1) earned the win after tossing a flawless 10th for the Cubs.

"I thought the game was complete," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "We pitched well and swung the bat well."

Starter Jason Hammel pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the no-decision.

Yasiel Puig's triple was just one of three Los Angeles hits. Zack Greinke's winless streak stretched to nine starts after giving up just three hits and two walks while fanning five over six frames.

"Zack threw the ball well," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Our bullpen did a nice job for us and gave us a lot of chances."

Taking the hill for the Cubs tonight will be righty Kyle Hendricks, who has lost two of his last three decisions. Hendricks was roughed up by the Minnesota Twins on Friday, as he allowed seven runs (6 earned) and 11 hits in five innings to fall to 2-3 to go along with a 4.28 ERA.

Los Angeles, meanwhile, will turn to righty Mike Bolsinger, who is 4-2 with a 2.87 ERA. Bolsinger lost to San Francisco on Friday, serving up five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Los Angeles was 4-3 against the Cubs last season.
