Orioles try to pick up series win over Red Sox

Jun 24, 2015 - 2:40 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles aim for their fourth straight win and a series victory over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday at Fenway Park.

The Orioles handed the Red Sox a 6-4 loss on Tuesday. David Lough belted a three-run homer in a four-run second inning, while Manny Machado and Jimmy Paredes finished with two hits and an RBI apiece.

Ubaldo Jimenez gave up three runs in five innings to pick up the win and improved to 6-3 on the season. Zach Britton recorded his 20th save even though he gave up a run in the ninth.

"It was a good team win," Jimenez said. "The guys really helped me out and I'm happy that I got that 'W'."

Baltimore, which is 2 1/2 games out of first in the AL East, has won 12 of its last 15 games and is 4-2 on an eight-game road trip.

Bud Norris is only 1-3 in his last four decisions and 2-5 with a 7.57 earned run average in nine starts this season. Norris gets the call for the O's Wednesday and pitched well the last time out in a 2-1 loss at Philadelphia, charged with two runs and five hits in six innings.

Norris, a right-hander, is 1-4 in five road outings and 2-2 with a 3.52 ERA in six career starts against the Red Sox. Norris took advantage of an 18-7 rout of Boston on April 26, tossing 6 2/3 innings of three-run ball.

The Red Sox had won four of six games prior to this series and didn't get much from Joe Kelly, who allowed five runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.

"My command was off today," said Kelly. "I couldn't throw the fastball where I wanted to and fell behind some hitters, which ultimately led to the big inning there and ended up running out of the game there."

Pablo Sandoval posted three hits and an RBI for Boston.

The Red Sox are 3-1 in Clay Buchholz's last four starts and the right-hander is 2-0 in that span. He gets the call Wednesday and is 4-6 with a 3.97 earned run average in 14 starts. Buchholz gave up two unearned runs in seven innings of a 5-2 win at Atlanta the last time out on Thursday.

Buchholz, who allowed four runs in each of his past two starts, threw eight shutout innings of three-hit ball in a 1-0 win over Minnesota on June 2. He hasn't fared too well at Fenway Park this season, going 1-4 with a 4.61 ERA, and is 9-5 with a 3.81 ERA in 18 career games (17 starts) in this series.

In a 4-1 loss to Baltimore on April 18, Buchholz was tagged for 11 hits and two runs across six innings with seven K's and one walk.

The Orioles are 8-3 against the Red Sox this season and have prevailed in each of the last six matchups between AL East foes.
