Rangers host Athletics aiming to snap slide

Jun 24, 2015 - 2:40 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers try to snap a three-game losing streak when they resume their series with the Oakland Athletics in Arlington.

The Rangers suffered an 8-6 loss in the opener of this three-game set on Wednesday, as Chi Chi Gonzalez gave up six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Rougned Odor finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Elvis Andrus had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two RBI.

"We are going to go through highs and lows," Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre said. "It's just a matter of how to score more runs than the other team."

Beltre was activated off the 15-day disabled list prior to the game. He was out since the beginning of June with a sprained left thumb.

The Rangers have won each of Wandy Rodriguez's last six starts and he gets the call Wednesday versus Oakland. Rodriguez is 3-0 in that time with a 2.70 earned run average and defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers last Wednesday in a 5-3 decision, tossing 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball.

Rodriguez is 4-2 overall with a 3.20 ERA in 11 starts and has never faced the Athletics in his career. The seasoned left-hander is still searching for his first home win and is 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in four Arlington starts.

Oakland has won three in a row and seven of nine games.

Ben Zobrist and Josh Phegley both homered and combined for five runs for the Athletics. Marcus Semien went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Jesse Chavez picked up the win even though he allowed five runs and eight hits in five innings. Drew Pomeranz earned his first save of the season with 1 2/3 innings of relief.

"We were prepared to go out there and pick up Chavez," Pomeranz said of Oakland's bullpen effort.

Kendall Graveman will take the mound for the A's Wednesday and he has lost consecutive trips to the mound, including Thursday's 3-1 setback to the San Diego Padres in which he have up two runs in seven innings.

Graveman dropped to 3-4 on the season in 10 starts and has a 4.02 earned run average. The right-hander has yielded four runs in his last three starts -- all Oakland losses -- and is 3-1 in six road outings. He lost his only career start against Texas on April 9 and permitted eight runs (7 earned) in 3 1/3 innings of a 10-1 defeat.

The A's are 7-4 against the Rangers this season.
