Mariners gets Putz back in the mix

SEATTLE (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners are happy J.J. Putz is back in the bullpen.

Putz and the Mariners go for their third straight win on Wednesday when they continue a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.

The 31-year-old righthander was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday after sitting out since April 2 with rib inflammation. He wasted no time making his presence felt in a bullpen that struggled during his absence.

After surrendering a leadoff double to Aubrey Huff in the top of the ninth inning, Putz struck out two and induced a groundout by Jay Payton to notch his second save of the season and seal a 4-2 victory over the Orioles in the series-opener on Tuesday.

Carlos Silva (3-0, 2.79 ERA) tries to keep Seattle's momentum going when he takes the mound on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old righthander allowed just one run and four hits in seven innings, leading the Mariners to an 8-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.

Daniel Cabrera (1-0, 5.16) counters for the Orioles after picking up his first win of the season during Friday's 8-2 victory over the New York Yankees. The 26-year-old righthander surrendered only two runs and six hits in six innings.
