Royals turn to Greinke to end slide

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The Kansas City Royals hope Zach Greinke can help snap their seven-game losing streak.

The Royals try to end their slump on Friday when they open a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Greinke (3-0, 1.24 ERA) allowed just two earned runs in 24 innings during his first three starts this season and continued that trend on Saturday before running into trouble in his final inning.

The 24-year-old righthander gave up three runs - two earned - in the fifth inning against the Oakland Athletics and was removed from the game after throwing 100 pitches.

Greinke surrendered eight hits and four walks, striking out six but did not factor in the decision as the Royals suffered a 6-5 setback.

A.J. Burnett (2-1, 6.85) counters for the Blue Jays, who enter Friday's game following four straight losses.

The 31-year-old righthander surrendered three runs and four hits in five innings, but walked six while striking out four. However, it was good enough to earn the win as Toronto claimed a 5-3 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.
