Mariners hoping to avoid sixth straight loss
May 5, 2008 - 1:45 PM Texas (13-19) at Seattle (13-19) 10:10 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners will look to end a five-game losing streak Monday when they open a three-game series against the Texas Rangers.
The Mariners were outscored by a 19-4 margin over their three-game series with the New York Yankees, including an 8-2 setback on Sunday.
Despite the loss, Adrian Beltre blasted a two-run shot in the first inning for his team-leading sixth home run of the season. Beltre is batting .283 with 13 RBI on the season.
Losers in nine of its previous 11 games, Seattle will send lefthander Jarrod Washburn (1-4, 4.86 ERA) to the mound in this one.
Washburn suffered his third straight loss Wednesday, surrendering six runs - five earned - over 4 1/3 innings during an 8-3 setback to the Cleveland Indians. He yielded six hits and two walks with a season-high seven strikeouts.
The Rangers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped with Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics, will counter with Kevin Millwood.
The 33-year-old righthander is seeking his third straight decision after allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 6 1/3 frames in Wednesday's 11-9 triumph over the Kansas City Royals.
