Swisher, struggling White Sox host surging Twins
May 6, 2008 - 12:24 PM Minnesota (16-14) at Chi White Sox (14-16) 8:11 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - Nick Swisher will try to help the Chicago White Sox snap a six-game losing streak Tuesday when they host the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game series.
The White Sox's prize offseason acquisition, Swisher is batting just .204 with three home runs and eight RBI this season.
Swisher and the rest of the Chicago offense have struggle lately as the club suffered a 1-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. The White Sox have managed just nine runs over their current losing skid.
Gavin Floyd (2-1, 3.16 ERA) will hope to get some help from the offense in this one as he looks to bounce back from his first loss of the season.
The righthander gave up three runs and five hits with three walks over six innings during last Tuesday's 3-1 setback to the Twins, who own a five-game winning streak.
Looking to make it six in a row, Minnesota will counter with rookie Nick Blackburn (2-1, 3.52). The 26-year-old righthander pitched seven frames, surrendering three runs and eight hits with four strikeouts in a 4-3 triumph over Chicago on Wednesday.
Joe Mauer drove in a pair of runs Sunday as the Twins edged the Detroit Tigers, 7-6, in their last game.
