D-backs return home, host lowly Royals

Jun 13, 2008 - 5:32 PM Kansas City (26-41) at Arizona (36-31), 9:40 pm EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Returning home from a 10-game road trip, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a three-game interleague series Friday.

Arizona went just 4-6 on its trip, which ended with Thursday's come-from-behind, 5-4 victory in 10 innings over the New York Mets. The Diamondbacks had trailed, 4-0, in the eighth inning.

Doug Davis (2-3, 4.88 ERA) will try to help Arizona build on its last win when he takes the mound Friday.

The lefthander struggled in his last start, lasting just 3 2/3 innings while giving up five runs and seven hits with four walks. He suffered the loss as Arizona dropped a 6-4 decision at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The Royals avoided a three-game sweep to the Texas Rangers on Thursday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth to post a 6-5 victory.

Zack Greinke (5-4, 3.77) has lost his last three decisions, which included Sunday's 6-3 setback at the New York Yankees. The righthander gave up four runs in five innings.

Greinke will have to deal with Arizona third baseman Mark Reynolds, who is batting .381 (8-for-21) with four home runs and nine RBI in his last five games.
