Rodney looks to rebound when Tigers visit Giants
Jun 17, 2008 - 1:52 PM Detroit (32-38) at San Francisco (31-40) 10:15 p.m. EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Despite a dismal season debut, the Detroit Tigers are happy to have Fernando Rodney back in the bullpen.
Rodney and the Tigers try to bounce back on Tuesday when they continue a three-game interleague series against the San Francisco Giants.
After beginning the season on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis, Rodney entered Monday's series opener in the eighth inning and surrendered a go-ahead three-run homer to rookie John Bowker as Detroit suffered an 8-6 setback.
Rodney, who went 2-6 with a 4.26 ERA and one save in 48 games last season with Detroit, joins a Tigers pitching staff that ranks 25th in the majors with a 4.60 ERA and is tied for fifth worst with just 14 saves this season.
Kenny Rogers (4-4, 4.63 ERA) tries to get the Tigers back on track when he takes the mound on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old lefthander allowed just one run and four hits in eight innings, but did not factor in the decision during Thursday's 2-1 victory against the Chicago White Sox.
Jonathan Sanchez (6-3, 4.26) counters for the Giants seeking his fifth win in as many starts.
