One for the road: Clippers end skid with win over Pistons.

Dec 18, 2010 - 4:45 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Blake Griffin put together his 14th consecutive double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds, as the Los Angeles Clippers downed Detroit, 109-88, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ryan Gomes added 18 points, while Eric Gordon chipped in with 15 points and six assists for the Clippers, who won for the first time in 12 tries on the road this season and ended a 15-game skid away from home.

Charlie Villanueva came off the bench to score 18 points and grab nine rebounds, while Ben Gordon supplied 15 points for the Pistons, who have lost five of their last six games.

"We had looks but our energy level was not there," Detroit head coach John Kuester said. "So, it is disappointing, very disappointing. I don't care who you're playing, and I want to give the Clippers credit. They played harder and better and smarter. We didn't do those things."

Leading 59-56 early in the third quarter, the Clippers took off on an 14-0 run, capped by a Gomes triple, to forge a 17-point lead with 2:49 to play in the period.

"We just came out aggressively tonight, but more importantly in the third quarter," Gomes said. "That first five minutes of the third, we kind of turned it up. We got stops and we got scores and that is what opened the door for us and put more pressure on them to execute better. I think that everyone contributed on the offensive end but it is most important that we do well on the defensive end."

The Clippers took an 80-62 advantage into the fourth quarter and stretched the lead to as many as 28 midway through the final session to cruise to their first road win since March 25 at Houston.

LA connected on 11-of-19 from the floor to take a 25-19 lead after the first quarter and continued their hot-shooting in the second stanza.

Griffin posted his 20th double-double of the season by halftime with 14 points and 11 boards, as the Clippers held a 51-46 advantage at the break. The Clips knocked down 11-of-20 in the second quarter for 56.4 percent shooting after 24 minutes of play.
