Gay's 30 paces Grizzlies over Indiana
Dec 27, 2010 - 4:16 AM Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Rudy Gay scored a game-high 30 points as the Memphis Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak by topping the Indiana Pacers, 104-90, at Conseco Fieldhouse.Indiana native Zach Randolph notched a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds and Marc Gasol finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Memphis, which got 10 assists from Mike Conley
"Our focus was to come in and get a good start," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. "(The Pacers) are a good ball movement team and we didn't want to play from beyond."
Danny Granger led the Pacers with 29 points and Roy Hibbert finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Indiana, which is 1-1 on a three-game homestand. Mike Dunleavy finished with 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Down 51-46 at the half, Indiana cut the lead to one, 59-58, with a Granger three at 6:33 of the third, but the Grizzlies responded with a 13-2 run to extend their lead back to double digits.
After Granger's three, Mayo and Gay added a jumper and transition slam to put the lead at 63-58. Gay added midrange shot at 4:42 to put the game at 65-60, and Mayo then added six straight points -- technical free throw, three-pointer and jump shot -- to put Memphis up 11 with just over three minutes left.
Two Greivis Vasquez free throws with 17 seconds left pushed the Memphis advantage to 15 points, but Darren Collison responded with a jumper with 2.1 seconds left to send the game into the fourth at 77-64.
A Granger driving finger roll layup at 6:52 in the fourth cut the Grizzlies' lead to 88-80, but a Gay jumper and Mayo three put Memphis' lead to 13, and it would never fall below 10 down the stretch.
"They played a sharper game than we did in most phases," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "We just got outplayed. I don't think we were sharp."
Gay led Memphis with 10 points in the first as the Grizzlies took a 32-20 lead after the opening 12 minutes. The Pacers responded in the second, but Memphis held a five-point lead at the half.
