Bucks surge ahead in third, beat Bobcats
Oct 10, 2010 - 3:42 AM GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Ersan Ilyasova scored 11 of his 15 points in the third quarter, helping the Milwaukee Bucks pull away for an 86-78 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats in a preseason game on Saturday night.Ilyasova was scoreless on 0-for-3 shooting in the first half but found his range in the third quarter, making 4-of-6 shots as Milwaukee turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 67-57 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Bucks got a major scare midway through the third quarter when starting point guard Brandon Jennings went down grabbing his ankle. However, he returned after the timeout and finished with 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists in 23 minutes.
"I went in for the layup and he came right down on my foot and kind of tweaked it a little bit," Jennings said. "It more just scared me than anything. But I'm going to bounce back. As long as it ain't broke, I'm going to play."
Jennings was leading a fast break when he worked around one defender and scooped up a shot in the lane. When he landed, the Bobcats' D.J. Augustin landed on Jennings' right foot and Jennings rolled to the floor clutching his ankle.
Bucks coach Scott Skiles rushed onto the floor to check on Jennings.
"I was concerned, obviously," he said. "As soon as I got out there, he said it just scared him a little bit and he felt like he was fine. Sometimes, if you step on somebody's foot or vice versa, you can feel like it's worse than it really is."
Drew Gooden finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Gerald Wallace led the Bobcats with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots, but he made only 4-of-11 shots. Augustin and Derrick Brown had 11 points apiece for the Bobcats, who were held to 1-of-5 shooting from 3-point range and were outscored by 18 points from beyond the arc.
"We've been pushing for about 12, 13 days straight and guys' legs are a little bit sore," Wallace said. "We're not following through on our assignments and things. When we get back, we'll have a couple days before our next game so we can get some rest. We'll build from here and hopefully we can get things turned around and finish the preseason strong."
