Bonner leads Spurs over Grizzlies

Jan 31, 2012 - 3:41 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Matt Bonner made five three-pointers and contributed 15 points off the bench, as the Spurs took down the Grizzlies, 83-73, at FedExForum.

Rookie Kawhi Leonard posted his second double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Tim Duncan and Richard Jefferson added 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the Spurs' third road win of the season.

O.J. Mayo had 17 points to lead the Grizzlies, whose leading scorer, Rudy Gay, was held without a field goal (0-for-7).

Mike Conley netted 15 points, but shot just 5-of-14 from the floor in Memphis' fourth straight loss on the heels of a seven-game winning streak.

The Spurs, coming off losses at Minnesota and Dallas, never trailed after the first quarter Monday and led by as many as 22 against the team that knocked them out of the first round of the playoffs last year.

Bonner made a three-pointer for 24-19 lead at the end of the first quarter, then drained another from long range two minutes into the second to push the margin to 31-19.

Memphis staying within 10 at the break, 45-35, and it was 55-45 before San Antonio pulled away over the final seven minutes of the third.

During the visitors' 15-5 quarter-ending run, Gay and head coach Lionel Hollins were whistled for technical fouls out of frustration.

The Grizzlies scored the first seven points in the fourth, but Bonner banked in a straightaway three to stop the run and essentially end any hint at a comeback.
