Spurs try to cure road woes in Memphis

Jan 30, 2012 - 3:35 PM (Sports Network) - The road-weary San Antonio Spurs aim to conclude a three- game trek on a positive note tonight against the Southwest Division-rival Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum.

The Spurs have lost the first two installments of their road swing and suffered a 101-100 overtime loss in Dallas on Sunday. Gary Neal scored 19 points and Danny Green, Richard Jefferson and Tim Duncan each had 12 points for the Spurs, who have lost four of six overall and fell to 2-8 on the road.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was asked about the game afterwards.

"It's disappointing. I don't know what you want me to do. Do you want me to cry? I don't know what you want me to do," Popovich said on the team's website. "How disappointing? Very disappointing, is that OK? It's disappointing."

Popovich should be pleased that his team shot better from beyond the arc, making 12-of-25 three-pointers in defeat. The Spurs made 41.5 percent of their shots overall.

After visiting the Grizzlies on Beale Street, San Antonio will return to the Alamo City for a three-game homestand versus the Rockets, Hornets and Thunder.

Memphis hopes to get back on track and has lost three in a row since a season- high seven-game winning streak. It recently wrapped up a four-game road trip with a 1-3 mark.

In an 86-84 loss at Phoenix on Saturday, Rudy Gay scored 18 points and Mike Conley finished with 15 for the Grizzlies, who got 18 points and 13 rebounds from Marc Gasol and almost battled back from a 16-point deficit at halftime.

Conley had a chance for the win but his three-pointer was off the mark.

"Obviously, we had our chances tonight," said Gay. "There's no such thing as moral victories. We just have to figure out how to get it done down the stretch."

The Grizzlies will also host Denver on the short residency and are 6-2 at home. They lost to San Antonio earlier this season by a 95-82 score on Dec. 26 at the AT&T Center and are 5-12 in the past 17 matchups between the teams.

San Antonio has lost two straight and three of four trips to Memphis.
