Durant drops 51, hits game-winner as Thunder beat Raptors in 2-OT
Mar 22, 2014 - 6:07 AM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Durant poured in 51 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left, to lift the Oklahoma City Thunder past the Toronto Raptors, 119-118, in double-overtime.Durant took an inbounds pass and nearly lost control of the ball but recovered, took two dribbles and buried the go-ahead basket.
"We couldn't go to another overtime," said Durant. "I had to live with whatever happened. I wasn't trying to go to another overtime. (I) pulled up for it, it looked good when it left my hands. That was the craziest game I've ever been a part of."
DeMar DeRozan's heave at the buzzer didn't draw iron and the Thunder held on for their fifth win in six tries.
Durant finished 7-of-12 from 3-point range and also had 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Reggie Jackson added 25 points and 12 rebounds and Serge Ibaka had 13 points in the win.
It wasn't all good news for the Thunder, however, as star guard Russell Westbrook left the game in the third quarter with a right knee sprain. Westbrook banged knees with Toronto guard Kyle Lowry and immediately grimaced in pain before he was helped to the locker room. He finished with 15 points in just over 19 minutes.
"When you've been hurt before you kind of get nervous like I did," said Westbrook. "Tomorrow we'll get it looked at and go from there."
DeRozan scored 33 points, Amir Johnson added 25 points and 12 boards and Lowry scored 25 points for the Raptors.
"It was tough," said Johnson of guarding Durant. "He's my height you know out there shooting, there's not much you can do."
The Thunder trailed by eight with just 49 seconds left in the second overtime, but Durant and Derek Fisher hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 118-116 with 15 seconds to go.
John Salmons was fouled with nine seconds left, but missed both free throws and the Thunder called timeout to advance the ball past midcourt, setting up Durant's game-winner.
OKC led 89-83 after Durant's 3-pointer with 4:36 left in regulation. The Raptors used a 7-0 run to take a 90-89 lead 90 seconds later, but another Durant triple with 47 seconds left made it 96-93.
Johnson split a pair of free throws to make it a two-point game before hitting the game-tying layup with 17 ticks to play. Neither side got a shot up before the final horn.
The Thunder led 107-104 with 11 seconds left in the first overtime, but Lowry drained a 3-pointer with seven seconds to play to force the second overtime.
The Thunder led 22-20 after 12 minutes, but the Raptors took a 46-42 lead into the break. OKC outscored the Raptors 30-25 in the third to make it 72-71.
Game Notes
The Thunder scored 22 points of 20 Toronto turnovers ... OKC starters Andre Roberson and Steven Adams both finished scoreless ... Durant has two 50-point games this season ... Greivis Vasquez finished with 21 points.
