Stuckey helps Pacers down Warriors

Feb 23, 2015 - 2:57 AM Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rodney Stuckey supplied his second straight 30-point game to help the Indiana Pacers in a 104-98 win over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.

Stuckey, who scored 30 points in Friday's win over Philadelphia, went for that mark again on 11-of-17 shooting off the bench.

C.J. Watson tallied 12 points in a reserve role for the Pacers, who have won three straight and six of seven.

"I'm happy with how we're playing," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "We're starting to play better but we still have a lot of work to do."

Klay Thompson picked up the slack for the injured Stephen Curry (ankle), notching a game-high 39 points as the Warriors had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Thompson netted the final six points of an 8-0 run for the Warriors to give them a 90-89 lead with over five minutes left. Stuckey answered with a layup before David West's mid-range jumper extended the Indiana edge to three.

Golden State cut the deficit to one thanks to another Thompson 3, but he missed a potential go-ahead bucket the next time down the floor with under a minute left. The Pacers then used some quick ball movement to find an open C.J. Miles for a trey that made it a 101-97 game with 26.5 seconds left.

Draymond Green split a pair of free throws for the Warriors, but Luis Scola knocked down a free throw to keep it a two-possession game as the Pacers held on.

Thompson stepped right up in the absence of his fellow Splash Brother, scoring 15 points in the opening frame to help the Warriors to a double-digit lead entering the second. Andre Iguodala's 3-pointer closed the quarter for a 38-26 lead after 12 minutes.

"We scored 38 in the first quarter and 60 the rest of the way. Their defense deserves a lot of credit," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

The Pacers flipped the script in the second quarter and really dug in on the defensive end against Golden State's reserves. Watson followed a Stuckey layup with three free throws, then George Hill's floater capped what turned out to be an 18-4 run that gave the Pacers a 50-47 lead. Indiana brought a 58-57 lead into the locker room at half.

Golden State held the Pacers scoreless for nearly five minutes to begin the third quarter, but it only managed to grab a three-point lead. Solomon Hill ended the scoring drought with a short jumper, then he converted a transition dunk to tie the game at 65-65. Stuckey banked in a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded in the quarter to help Indiana to an 81-78 lead.

Game Notes

The 38 points allowed by the Pacers in the first quarter were the most by an opponent in opening quarter since Feb. 15, 2011 ... Golden State, which had won its last two in the series, opened up a six-game road trip on Sunday ... Indiana shot 48.1 percent from the floor, while limiting the Warriors to 38 percent shooting ... David Lee grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
