LaVine, Timberwolves edge Jazz in OT
Mar 24, 2015 - 5:33 AM Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach LaVine had 27 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer with 12.2 seconds left in regulation, as the Minnesota Timberwolves took down the Utah Jazz 106-104 in overtime on Monday night.Andrew Wiggins posted 22 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves, who have won two of their last three games.
"It just shows everyone is on this team for a reason. We all go out there to produce. We all got heart," LaVine said.
Derrick Favors posted 19 points and 12 boards, while Rudy Gobert added 18 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks for Utah, which has dropped three of its last four contests on the heels of a six-game losing skid.
"They just made tough shots. All the shots they took were contested," Favors said. "They just made tough shots so you can't do nothing about it."
Gobert's putback dunk staked the Jazz to a 92-87 advantage with 1:02 remaining in regulation, but Chase Budinger and LaVine sandwiched 3-pointers around a pair of Elijah Millsap free throws to trim the gap to 94-93 with 20.7 seconds left.
Trey Burke sunk two free throws to up the margin to three. LaVine, however, pushed the ball up the floor and tied the game at 96-96 when he rose for a deep left wing triple and hit it with 12.2 ticks on the clock.
Burke's desperation one-footed heave from the right corner was off the mark at the horn.
Gorgui Dieng converted a tip-in and Budinger knocked down a trey to stake Minnesota to a 102-97 margin with 2:39 to go in overtime. Favors split a pair of foul shots and Gobert put in a layup to trim the deficit to 102-100 with 1:01 to go.
After LaVine turned the ball over, Burke was off the mark on a potentially go- ahead 3 from the left wing. Dieng made 1-of-2 from the line and Burke sunk two at the other end with 11.2 ticks on the clock, getting Utah within 103-102.
Sean Kilpatrick hit two bonus shots and Burke answered with a layup. LaVine then sunk two from the charity stripe with 4.6 seconds left and Burke's deep pull-up left wing 3 at the buzzer ricocheted off the glass.
Earlier, the Jazz led 22-20 following a quarter of play and 48-42 at the break. Minnesota outscored them 18-15 in the third to trim the margin to 63-60 heading into the fourth.
