Spurs invade Queen City to take on Bobcats

Nov 8, 2010 - 3:55 PM (Sports Network) - The streaking San Antonio Spurs arrive in the Queen City Monday night hoping to dispose of the struggling Charlotte Bobcats.

The Spurs earned their third straight win on Saturday when Tony Parker scored seven of his 21 points in overtime and added 14 assists, as San Antonio held off the then-winless Houston Rockets, 124-121, at the AT&T Center.

Manu Ginobili finished with 28 points for the Spurs, who are off to a 4-1 start. Richard Jefferson tallied 22 points for San Antonio, which got 19 points and 11 rebounds from Tim Duncan.

"Tony did a wonderful job of making sure he stayed aggressive and didn't just defer to anybody," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "When he had opportunities, he took advantage of them. He either made the pass or he scored himself and did a real fine job. Manu helped us hang in for awhile. Timmy helped us hang in for awhile and Tony was great in that situation in overtime."

The Bobcats, conversely, dropped their second straight on Saturday when Rashard Lewis and Dwight Howard each scored 22 points, as the Orlando Magic topped Charlotte, 91-88, at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Gerald Wallace finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds and Stephen Jackson, who was fined $50,000 for verbal abuse of game officials after Charlotte's loss at Detroit last Friday, added 16 points and six assists for the Bobcats, who are off to a dismal 1-5 start for the third time in their short seven-year history.

"We've got to continue to fight, follow our game plan and good things will happen," Jackson said. "We have to find a way to bring the energy from the beginning of the game. We've got to keep working, stay positive and try to turn this thing around."

Charlotte snapped a six-game skid versus the Spurs with a win on Jan. 15 of last season. Overall, however, San Antonio has won 10 of the 12 meetings between the two clubs.
