Undefeated Hornets host Clippers in Big Easy
Nov 9, 2010 - 3:53 PM (Sports Network) - Things don't figure to get any easier for the struggling Los Angeles Clippers tonight as they resume a four-game road trip in the Big Easy against the unbeaten New Orleans Hornets. The Clippers have lost 13 straight to New Orleans since a 100-90 win back on Jan. 8, 2007.
The Clips fell to 0-2 on their current trek Saturday in Salt Lake City, losing a tough double-overtime game to the Jazz. Deron Williams recorded the game- winning bucket with 6.8 seconds left in the second extra frame, spoiling the Clippers' furious rally and giving Utah an entertaining 109-107 victory at EnergySolutions Arena.
Eric Gordon netted 27 points but suffered a shoulder injury late in the contest for Los Angeles, which has lost six of seven to start the season and has dropped 15 straight in Utah. Chris Kaman donated 23 points, while Blake Griffin scored 16 points -- 15 in the first half -- to go with a game-high 17 rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
"I like our intensity," Griffin said. "We've gotten better and better over the past seven games. We've got to make that next step and continue to grow."
Rookie Eric Bledsoe scored 14 points for LA in place of Baron Davis at point guard, who missed a fourth straight game with a cyst behind his left knee. Gordon, who was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left shoulder, is expected to play tonight but Davis will remain on the sidelines.
The Clips will finish their trek in San Antonio on Wednesday.
New Orleans, meanwhile, remained one of just two NBA unbeatens with an 87-81 triumph in Milwaukee on Saturday. David West finished with 25 points in that one, while Marco Belinelli and Chris Paul each contributed 14 points.
Paul also had nine rebounds and six assists while Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor both finished with 11 points for the Hornets, who are 6-0 on the young season, joining the two-time defending champion LA Lakers as one of two teams without a blemish.
