Thomas' big fourth quarter helps Bobcats beat Raptors

Nov 11, 2010 - 4:11 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Tyrus Thomas scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, as the Charlotte Bobcats took down the Toronto Raptors, 101-96, at Air Canada Centre.

Thomas also blocked five shots for the Bobcats, who snapped a three-game skid. Stephen Jackson chipped in with 20 points for Charlotte, which got 19 points and 14 rebounds from Gerald Wallace.

"It feels good to start the road trip with a win," Jackson said. "Both teams are struggling. It's good to get going with a win."

Andrea Bargnani tallied 23 points and nine rebounds for the Raptors, who have dropped six straight since their only win of the season on October 29 versus Cleveland. Sonny Weems and Amir Johnson ended with 20 and 16 points, respectively.

A pair of Johnson free throws got the Raptors within one, 95-94, with 1:17 to play. Thomas responded with a pair of foul shots at the other end to give the Bobcats a three-point lead.

Weems missed a running jumper at the opposite end of the floor. The Raptors kept the ball after Charlotte knocked the rebound out of bounds. Bargnani missed a three-pointer before making a driving layup to cut the gap to 97-96 with 20.9 ticks remaining.

Thomas made two more free throws to give the Bobcats a three-point edge again with 12.7 seconds to go. Bargnani lost the ball at the other end, and Jackson made a pair of foul shots to seal the victory.

"I lost the ball. There's nothing to describe," Bargnani said. "We had our chances to win. We've got to play better to win."

The Bobcats led by as many as six in the first quarter and took a 26-24 edge into the second stanza. The Raptors, though, made it a 48-48 game at the half.

Trailing by four, 63-59, with 4 1/2 minutes to go in the third, Toronto went on a 15-6 run. Bargnani and Jose Calderon bookended the spurt with three- pointers for a 74-66 lead. Jackson's trey cut Charlotte's deficit to five heading to the fourth.

Game Notes

Toronto took two of three matchups with Charlotte last season...Raptors guard Leandro Barbosa (shoulder) missed the game...The Bobcats made 27-of-33 foul shots, while Toronto went 19-of-25 from the charity stripe.
