Warriors visit Windy City to take on Bulls
Nov 11, 2010 - 3:36 PM (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bulls resume a three-game homestand tonight by welcoming the much-improved Golden State Warriors to the United Center. The Bulls won the opener of the residency on Monday when Derrick Rose had a team-high 18 points and added six assists, and Luol Deng finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, as Chicago edged the Denver Nuggets, 94-92.
Taj Gibson had 16 points for Chicago, which shot 41.5 percent from the field and snapped a two-game slide. Joakim Noah pulled in 19 rebounds to go with 13 points.
The Bulls will finish their current residency with a bout against John Wall and the Washington Wizards on Saturday before embarking on their annual "Circus Trip," which will begin next Tuesday in Houston and continue for seven games.
"It's always been a bad trip," Deng told the Bulls' website. "So we've got to take care of home court and get these next two."
The Warriors, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 on a five-game road trip on Wednesday when David Lee scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his return to New York, as Golden State held off the Knicks, 122-117, at Madison Square Garden.
Lee spent the first five seasons of his career in New York. He was acquired by the Warriors this summer in a trade that sent Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike to the Knicks. The fans greeted Lee with a standing ovation.
"It was very emotional coming back here," said Lee. "I started cramping up in the early second quarter because I had expended so much energy being hyped to go into the game. It was a well played game by both teams and I'm just happy we came out with the win."
Stephen Curry added 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Warriors, who are off to a 6-2 start. Monta Ellis played through a strained lower back and chipped in with 22 points and six assists.
"Right now, he is in a growth cycle and he will continue to develop," Golden State coach Keith Smart said of the emerging Curry.
Golden State, which is attempting to open a season 7-2 for the first time since 1994-95, will finish its trek with a visit to Milwaukee on Saturday.
Golden State snapped a four-game skid against the Bulls with a 114-97 win in Oakland back in January. The Warriors, however, have dropped eight of their last nine trips to the Windy City.
