Streaking Spurs entertain Magic in Alamo City

Nov 22, 2010 - 4:05 PM (Sports Network) - The sizzling San Antonio Spurs shoot for their 11th consecutive win Monday when they entertain the Orlando Magic in the Alamo City.

San Antonio took its 10th straight game in the opener of a brief two-game homestand Saturday when Tony Parker led a balanced attack with 19 points and nine assists as the Spurs routed the Cleveland Cavaliers, 116-92.

Tiago Splitter scored 18 off the bench, and Richard Jefferson added 14 for the Spurs, who are off to the best start in franchise history. They haven't won 11 in a row since their run from February 11-March 6, 2008.

San Antonio shot 12-of-25 from three-point range, led by a 4-for-7 performance by Matt Bonner.

"This is a good run for us, great run for us, great start," said the Spurs' Tim Duncan. "There's going to be some ups and downs through the season. I think this team is really built on what we did last year, just having guys on the same page right now and feeling comfortable with each other."

Orlando, meanwhile, stayed hot itself with a 90-86 triumph in Indianapolis on Saturday, the club's fourth straight victory. Dwight Howard did the bulk of the fourth- quarter scoring in that one, but it was Jameer Nelson's three- point play in the final minute that saved the Magic.

Howard scored the Magic's first 14 points in the final quarter, and finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds after a rough first half. Rashard Lewis made 5- of-7 three-pointers and added 21 points to help the Magic to a fourth consecutive victory.

James Posey made a three-pointer with 45.6 seconds to play to give the Pacers an 86-85 edge, but at the other end, Nelson bulled his way to the basket from the left side before pulling up for a jumper. T.J. Ford fouled him on the shot, and the free throw put the Magic up by two with 33.6 on the clock.

Posey then missed a shot from the top of the arc, and Vince Carter made two free throws to secure the win.

"We had to grind it out. It was very tough for us down the stretch to make shots, but we kept fighting," Howard said.

Nelson finished with 11 points and nine assists for Orlando, which has won three straight road games.

The Magic have won three of their past four games with the Spurs but the team had dropped 15 of its last 18 trips to the Alamo City.
