Felton, Knicks top Charlotte again
Nov 25, 2010 - 5:13 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Raymond Felton scored 23 points and dished out 13 assists in his return to Charlotte and the Knicks topped the Bobcats, 99-95, at Time Warner Cable Arena.Felton spent the first five years of his career with the Bobcats before signing with New York as a free agent in the offseason.
Wilson Chandler finished with 21 points and eight rebounds and Amare Stoudemire supplied 20 points for the Knicks, who have won five straight.
"The good news is we have a five-game winning streak, the bad news is we're .500," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. "Let's be real and try to get the one on Saturday (vs. Atlanta).
Tyrus Thomas led Charlotte with 26 points and 11 rebounds and Stephen Jackson added 18 points for the Bobcats, who lost both games of a home-and-home series with New York.
D.J. Augustin supplied 14 points and seven assists and Boris Diaw scored 11 points in the loss.
"Our effort in the fourth quarter has been so much better than over the course of a game," Bobcats coach Larry Brown said. "We play like a bunch of strangers, no ball movement, too many guys standing around. When you have to fight uphill all the time, you have to play perfect."
Stoudemire made two free throws to give the Knicks a 96-95 lead with 1:19 remaining in the game and New York added three more free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Knicks were trailing by four in the final minute of the first quarter, but Toney Douglas' three-pointer with 22.5 ticks remaining cut the Charlotte lead to 25-24 heading to the second.
New York's Bill Walker bookended a 13-4 run for the Knicks to open up the second and Chandler added a three at 5:56 to put New York up 40-31. The Bobcats surged in the final minutes of the half, cutting the deficit to 51-48 heading to the locker room.
Felton's three at 8:38 of the third put the Knicks up 62-52, and New York extended the margin to 81-67 when Stoudemire converted on a three-point play with just over a minute remaining.
Charlotte's Shaun Livingston hit back-to-back shots in the final seconds to send the game into the fourth with New York up 81-71.
Jackson converted on a driving layup at 5:35 in the fourth that cut the Knicks lead to 87-84. Charlotte trimmed the lead to one in the ensuing possessions, but Chandler hit a deep three just under the three minute mark to put New York up 94-90.
Thomas followed a dunk with a three-point play on the next trip down the court to give the Bobcats a 95-94 lead, but Stoudemire hit his two from the line and Landry Fields connected on the first of two free throws to put the Knicks up 97-95 with 10 seconds left.
Fields missed the second free throw and Danilo Gallinari grabbed the rebound. He was immediately fouled and made two from the line with five ticks remaining to ice the game.
