Magic make a stop in Washington

Nov 27, 2010 - 3:49 PM (Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic will shoot for a third straight win when they make a stop in Washington tonight to take on the Wizards at the Verizon Center.

Orlando has won two straight and six of seven games, including Friday's 111-100 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Magic Kingdom. Dwight Howard posted 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Jameer Nelson contributed 20 points and six assists for the Southeast Division-leading Magic.

"We were terrible defensively, terrible. I saw very few good things defensively. I'm very happy with the win, but I'd like us to become a defensive team," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We have very high goals, and we're not getting there playing defense like that."

Nelson is shooting 55 percent over the last five games and is averaging 15.6 points and 9.2 assists over that stretch. J.J. Redick ended with 15 points and five assists in a game-high 37 minutes, and is filling in for injured veteran Vince Carter, who has missed two straight games with a sprained knee.

Carter is questionable for Saturday's game.

Washington has alternated wins and losses over its last seven games and fell to 0-7 on the road this season with Thursday's 116-96 setback at Atlanta.

Gilbert Arenas netted 21 points with eight assists and six boards, while Nick Young scored 20 points off the bench for Washington. Rookie John Wall finished with 10 points and seven assists in defeat.

"We just couldn't get the pace we needed to get us going. Walking up and down, offensively and defensively. They just took advantage of it," Arenas said.

The Wizards have won three straight at home and are 5-2 in DC this season. In injury news, forward Al Thornton (ankle) and center Andray Blatche (eye) are questionable for tonight's game.

Orlando defeated Washington, 112-83, in central Florida on Oct. 28 this season and has won three straight and 11 of the past 14 meetings. The Magic have won six of seven contests in the nation's capital.
