Atlanta topples Toronto behind Smith's triple-double

Nov 28, 2010 - 10:44 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Josh Smith posted a triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, as the Atlanta Hawks routed the Toronto Raptors, 96-78, at Air Canada Centre.

"I always like to play with a lot of energy and effort," Smith said. "The offense wasn't there today, but I was able to exploit my passing abilities and defense."

Andrea Bargnani netted 14 points to go with seven boards for the Raptors, who have lost two in a row after a four-game winning streak. DeMar DeRozan ended with 13 points in defeat.

"Nobody could score and we couldn't stop those guys," Raptors head coach Jay Triano said.

Atlanta jumped out to a 27-23 lead after the opening 12 minutes, then went up by seven early in the second quarter on Jamal Crawford's three-pointer.

The Raptors were able to come back and take a brief 38-36 lead on Leandro Barbosa's layup a short time later before a Williams putback tied things and started an 11-2 Hawks' run. Josh Powell finished off the surge with a layup with 3:47 to play to make it 47-40, and it would be 52-46 heading into the locker room.

Jose Calderon's layup a minute and a half into the third quarter got the Raptors as close as 54-50, but Atlanta answered with a 19-3 run.

Smith started the surge with a jumper and Horford finished it off with a fade away for a 20-point lead with 2:26 left in the period. It was a 77-57 game at the end of three.

The Hawks maintained a comfortable double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to earn the easy victory.
